A native Midlander, Lori Blong knows what it takes to deliver results and move Midland forward. A wife, mother and local small business owner, Lori’s passion for Midland shines through on the city council where she worked to lead Midland through the COVID pandemic while improving essential city services. Now, Lori leads Midland as our next Mayor, using God-given resources to create a high quality of life built on the foundation of strong fiscal responsibility, workforce development, public safety, and customer service at City Hall. Lori’s goal is simple – ensure that every Midland family can grow and prosper. In addition to her service on the Midland City Council, Lori is council liaison for Midland EDC, past President of Habitat for Humanity, a member of Congressman Pfluger’s Energy Task Force, and a Permian Basin Petroleum Association (PBPA) Board Member. A former schoolteacher, Lori and her husband, Jared, now own and operate Octane Energy. They have three children and are members of Stonegate Fellowship Church.

Amy Stretcher Burkes
Amy Stretcher Burkes was born and raised in Midland, graduated from Midland Christian, received an Associate degree from Midland College, and a BS in Human Resources from Texas A&M University. She and her husband lived in Kansas City for 5 years and in Minneapolis for 1 year while he completed his Residency and Fellowship training. Amy became politically active in the Republican Party while living in Kansas. In Minnesota she was a National Delegate to the Republican Convention, State Treasurer for the Minnesota Young Republicans, and a Senate District Board Member. When Amy and her husband returned to Midland, she helped form Midland County Young Republicans where she served as Treasurer, and joined the Midland County Republican Women’s Club where she serves as a board member.
Amy’s political journey began in Midland when the City notified homeowners in her neighborhood of the intent to rezone Nueva Vista Golf Golf. During that process, she became aware of city leadership and the need to become a part of the process in support of police, firefighters, and investment of critical infrastructure. Amy and her husband, Dr. Jonathan Burkes, have three daughters. In addition to her civic duties, Amy currently manages real estate holdings.
